On page 679 purchase refers to a dangerous creature as a "Ambize, Angola, or Hog-fish", but he actually makes a really simply mistake here! You see, the
...
full name of this monster is the "Ambisiangulo" and it's a combination of two Kikongo words, mbisi (“fish”) and ngulu (“pig”). In the index, Purchas labels the creature as simply an "Ambize" which actually just means fish! My guess is that he learned that name from a native of Congo and for some reason thought Ambize and Angulo were two different nicknames for it. Like maybe the Congolese person said it slowly to help Purchas understand? I don't know! I just think it's really neat to see such a simple misunderstanding like this from centuries ago. Its good old fashion human error and we've never grown out of it haha!
